In two weeks we will be sitting on the beach in Akumal, Mexico and we are pretty excited for a week in the sun, good food and lots of relaxation!
Last weekend I did a bunch of research on sunscreen as I wanted a more natural one but also one that would be enough for the Mexican sun. I have downloaded two apps: Think Dirty and the Healthy Living app from EWG. You can easily scan bar codes for various products and the app will tell you the ingredients and will give the products a score between 0-10. The lower score equals lower hazard and higher score higher hazard.
There's so much information out there but I finally settled on a sunscreen from The Honest Company. I bought 3 tubes with SPF 50 and one of the SPF 30 and hopefully that will be enough for the two of us. The SPF 50 scores a 1 and the SPF 30 a 3 on the Healthy Living app which I thought was pretty good. So we will be giving them a try and hopefully we will be able to make a great review of these products.
Today I started preparing a few other things which we for sure need during our vacation. Well at least Mike needs it as the mosquitoes love him!
"Bug off" is the repellent blend and for easy application, I use a spray bottler with the following ingredients:
20 drops of the Repellent Blend
5 drops of Peppermint
2 drops of the Cleansing Blend
2 drops of Cedarwood
2 drops of Arborvitae
The rest of the bottled filled with water. Then just shake well before use and spray on your skin and the mosquitoes should leave you alone!*
"They got me" is so great for the times, the mosquitoes did get you! Made up in a roller bottle so it's easy to apply to the bite(s).
5 drops of the Cleansing Blend
5 drops of Lavender
Fill the rest with fractionated coconut oil
Lastly is an after sun gel which I will make just before we leave, just in case any of should get a little red.
I will be making up a jar of this with Aloe Vera gel, fractionated coconut oil and 10-15 drops of essential oils. I will be using Lavender and Peppermint. Depending on your jar size, just increase the amounts below. This is for a 30ml jar.
10-15 drops of essential oils
2 tbsp Aloe Vera gel
2 tsp fractionated coconut oil
Mix essential oils with the coconut oil and add it to the gel and blend it together. Store it in the fridge, so it's nice and cool when you need it.

*doTERRA has brought out a new formula of the Repellent Blend which already has Cedarwood and Arborvitae in it, so leave those out of the recipe.
